Zen Chic follow up

For those of you who missed Brigitte’s talk yesterday, it was fabulous. We were so lucky to be able to schedule her, as she is VERY busy designing fabric, building patterns- she even does her own styling photos! Because there is a 6 hour time difference with her in Germany and me here in eastern Canada, it was an 11am start time. But that early start didn’t stop people from logging on. At least one person, Brandy Maslowski, tuned in all the way from British Columbia. Brandy helped curate the question period for us after the talk- thanks, Brandy!

Here are some bits and pieces of information from Brigitte’s presentation yesterday. Her website: https://www.brigitteheitland.de

Moda palette builder: I had trouble finding the link to this, but found something similar under play crafts, link here: http://www.play-crafts.com/blog/palettebuilder2/ I grabbed a photo of a neighbour’s garden which I LOVE, and uploaded it. Here are the results. You can move the dots around to try different colours. Pretty fabulous, and a new way to think about what colours you might want to use.
I saw some fabulous fabrics that Brigitte had designed, and there was some discussion about where to get it in Canada. I did a quick google search for Moda Fabrics Canada, and that was a wonderful way to spend half an hour! There are a lot of quilt shops out there that sell Moda and Zen Chic, but here is the first hit I got: a shop in BC called Dinkydoo. This seems a good place to start if you are looking for something specific. I especially like  Even More Paper, which is available for pre-order.
I was so impressed with Brigitte’s styling tips, that I took one of Sandy Lindal’s quilts (Sandy of quiltTalk and ScrappyGalQuiltCo,) and played with backgrounds for it. Love it! This is a quilt that she offers to guilds as a block of the month challenge, called Scrap Sewciety. If you think your guild might be interested, email Sandy directly.
Thanks for being a part of quiltTalk! Remember, we have some great talks coming up in September.. check them out if you haven’t booked your place yet!

And we have added a workshop with Kathy Doughty for October 6th. Spaces are filling fast, so sign up soon!
